I ended up in Fairbanks as a layover stop before departing on an Alaskan photo expedition that next morning. I was exhausted, sleep deprived from a long flight, but I didn’t waste the evening in the snow covered city. I wandered out of the hotel, 6 lb medium format film camera in hand, and spent my night photographing around the neighborhoods, all draped in an peaceful even layer of snow. Later in that trip, when we passed back through Fairbanks, I went out again. It was again a peaceful night, and looking back at the photos now, I wonder what it would be like to live in this world where its night for the majority of the day, where its snow covered for the majority of the year. I don’t know. But one day, I hope to return and see.
