Alaska has always been one of those places of deep exploration. With Canada separating it from the rest of the mainland US, its always felt out of reach, even of my own imagination. This all changed when I got the opportunity to go on a photo expedition in a few years ago.
Deep in December, -10°F, a new snowfall every few days, and only about 5 hours of sunlight a day, a small crew of us ventured up and down the state. From ice cave, to dog sledding, to hot springs, we saw some of the best that the state had to offer. Unfortunately the northern lights evaded us for this one, but it’s left me yearning for a sight of them. Now the only question is, can I withstand that cold again for a chance to see them?
