Assateague Island, MD is a small barrier island off the coast of Virginia. Not far from one of the many beaches of the island, my friend from college’s parents have a small cottage. He, myself, and a few of our close buddies went up on the last weekend of summer a few years ago. Early into my photography work, I brought along my 35mm camera and documented the experience, shooting my friends enjoy themselves. The weekend consisted of crab hunting, frisbee, and general shenanigans that you could expect from a group of recent college grads at the beach for the weekend. Years later, I look back on these photos as a reminder of simpler times. Now, many of us are married, live farther away from each other, and unfortunately don’t talk as much. But, I still hold out hope we’ll have another trip like this soon. One where we don’t have much to worry about. Where it really is just a simple weekend, full of nostalgia, together.
